What is valuing modesty?

Modesty is defined as the quality of being modest and not being too proud or confident about yourself. Valuing modesty is expressing a humble opinion of oneself or one's accomplishments or abilities. Modesty is an important principle since it encompasses not just how we dress and conduct, but also what we think and feel. It's not just about "covering up," but also about challenging our perceptions of ourselves in the world, our notions of beauty, what we think about, and how we act. All of this is then reflected in the way we dress.

A lot of the time in today's society many see modesty as either humility or a special type of benevolence or kindness. According to these viewpoints, modesty is a deeply societal virtue, not just a personal trait. Furthermore, often when an individual dresses modest others are quick to assume they have been oppressed or if a women’s body is visible, she is asking to be available for sex.

Either dressing modestly or not, women continuously face backlash from men and close minded individuals. However, valuing modesty is helping eachother grow in virtue and a huge part of clothing plays a huge role in that. Valuing modesty has numerous definitions from across different religions and cultures. For instance, in Islam modesty is important because men and women share responsibilities in upholding modesty and controlling their desires in society. In Christianity, “modesty is an attitude of humility and decency in dress, grooming, language, and behavior.”

All in all, it is immensely important to value one’s modesty because at the end of the day dressing modestly comes from an individual's way of life. Although one might disagree with dressing modestly, having respect and valuing modesty goes a long way and within itself means so much.

That is why ModestGal Incorporated emphasizes valuing modesty. We want others to know that we have the utmost respect and value who dress modestly and even live a modest life. We preach this by offering modest clothing for all backgrounds and shapes. Not only that, but offering an option of diversity, size and so much more. Not only do we offer these options but 10% of proceeds are donated to fashion schools for young women.
