A holiday appreciation post

Happy holiday season! For many it is a wonderful season of family and traditions. Holidays traditionally celebrated in the month of December and early January are Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, St. Lucia Day, St. Nicholas Day, Christmas and Kwanzaa. While this post is not about fashion it is about inclusivity. One of the founding precepts of Modest Gal Incorporated is inclusivity. During this holiday season we wanted to educate our lovely readers on a few holidays they may be unaware of. The holidays will go in order of date.

  • Hanukkah

    • Hanukkah was celebrated this year from November 28 to December 6. Hanukkah is the celebration of the Second Temple of Jerusalem. It is eight days and nights of celebration based on the Hebrew calendar. Hanukkah is also called the festival of lights and is celebrated by the lighting of the menorah. The menorah has nine branches and there are eight lights to be lit every night of hanukkah.

  • St. Nicholas Day

    • St. Nicholas Day was celebrated in 2021 on December 6. This holiday is also called the feast day and surrounds Saint Nicholas. The holiday in protestant holiday mainly celebrated in European countries. Saint Nicholar is the patron saint of Greece and Russia. He was known for being a generous man.

  • St. Lucia Day

    • St. Lucia Day is celebrated on December 13 every year. It is also called the feast of Saint Lucy. The feast celebrates the marty Saint Lucia of Syracuse who was said to bring aid to christians hiding from persecution in the Roman catacombs. It is also said that she wore a lit wreath around her neck to light her way.

  • Winter Solstice

    • The winter solstice is the shortest day of the year and it also marks the first day of winter. This day is often celebrated with festivals and feasts. Many call it the rebirth of the sun. This celebration is said to be a symbol of fire, light, and life and death.

  • Christmas

    • Christmas is celebrated on the 25 of December. This day celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ who is the son of God in christianity. There are typically exchanges of gifts on the morning of Christmas between family and friends. The christmas celebration is based on pagan rituals that celebrate the winter solstice.

  • Kwanzaa

    • Kwanzaa is celebrated starting on December 26 and ending January 1. This holiday is a traditionally African American holiday that came during the civil rights movement. This holiday was meant to modify the traditional christmas so that African Americans could celebrate their culture and finally have their own traditions. The holiday ends in a feast called Karamu
